A monumental win
Old Parmiterians reserve squad recorded an impressive away win in their last fixture, but one result alone is nothing. Their follow up act against third placed Enfield was even more emphatic. The normal slow start had looked like giving the hosts a tough task of claiming the points on the day, but this team continues to show its fighting spirit by turning things round by the interval. The early warning signs were there, as Steve Kennedy-Clarke made a save in the first minute however, the warning was not heeded. The ball was lost by the defence, leading to an instant goal to break the deadlock, followed swiftly by a poorly defended second. Kennedy-Clarke then made a vital stop to keep his team in it. Danny Isichei put in a tough tackle to regain possession and played it out to Sami Bekir, the latter's long ball in behind released Charlie Heath to race through on goal and score to pull one back. Heath the turned provider as he dropped off and chipped the ball over the Enfield defence to Zach Harry. Harry trapped the ball beyond the onrushing keeper to roll the ball into an empty net and restore parity. The turn around was complete on 34 minutes when the ball fell to Harry in a penalty box scramble, his quick feet left several players on the ground before he once more rounded the keeper and scored from an acute angle. The second half saw the hosts ramp up the pressure, with Heath's now usual goal glut occurring once again. First Isichei broke down the right, before playing Heath in to burst beyond the Enfield back line, round the keeper and find the gaol with the angle against him. The hat-trick was complete on 52 minutes when a swift counter saw Harry's smart touches delay the visiting defence and allow Heath to race through on to a perfectly timed through ball and finish his one-on-one. Sloppy defending then allowed Enfield to pull one back, before Kennedy-Clarke's long pass, captain Chris Scherer's exquisite touch and then outside of the foot cross found Josep Mari to score with his first touch to keep the momentum with the hosts. Isichei got in on the act, pressing an opponent into an error high up the pitch before running through himself to finish calmly into the bottom corner. Harry and Heath both had chances to add to the scoreline, but regardless the result was a message loud and clear to the rest of the league about Old Parmiterians' credentials in the title challenge this season. Another home game beckons next week, with Mill Hill visiting Douglas Eyre. Some momentum has built up in the short term, the question will be asked again next week if it can translate into real consistency.
