7 missing, trialist & the rest show the w
Well great game and warm up as we started the game with 7 missing, it was all about the remainder from last year's squad and the trialists making a difference. Today was about the coach and manager making a pure plan of action. The reserves looked good with a huge squad, but we had to believe in the plan and try as best as we could. The core of the squad were available and the idea was to follow a key structure and deliver to our strengths. The game was about a press and controlling the midfield. The reserves scored early from a corner and tried playing direct at first. But the reserves started playing a possession game from the back which we pressed and truly broke down. We created many opportunities but failed to score, the 1st half left our left exposed to a strong full back and winger. Once we got to grips with this only mode of attack our midfield was able to lock down the midfield. we soon scored from a corner and that seemed to make the reserves really start to play but without any end product. we pounded the last 10 mins and really should have scored 2 because the pace of our attack and break caused them issues. The reserves were confident in their game and never panicked. The 2nd half brought changes on both sides but the reserve side seemed too attacking and left many spaces wide for us to exploit. The reserves game became very erratic yet swift which suited our now defensive midfield and experienced defence. It became a game of who had the best break, unfortunately although quick and skillful there was no physical bite up top for the reserves whilst we had pace and strength. Eventually a great free kick stunned the reserves and truly their game became too rapid with not enough build up play, the latter really allowed us to put on even swifter players to press any errors. It was a really great game of different styles, with 7 players not available we were certainly in the dark about the game direction but managed to punch out a great result. This is just preseason so the best is yet to come especially with 7 to return
