Narrow win was unecessary
Suttonians' results do not show the difficulty involved in beating them, certainly not the way we play. We had good possession and spent most of the game in their half but with the scores at 0-0, a clever move down the wing from the visitors put the striker in on goal only for his lob to go harmlessly over the bar. The slightly makeshift Parms back four did not heed the warning and moments later the number 9 was away again, this time only to be what was thought, the save or double save of the game from Dan Banks. How he saved the first one, I do not know, but the second save off the rebound was class. Moments later, same thing again, but the striker gave Dan no chance this time..1-0 to Suttonians. Our reaction was to carry on as we were, as we were creating, then Scott Moore put through a lovely ball for Nico Bretheneux's perfectly timed run 1-1. Shortly after, Nico scored a tap in 2-1 Parms. Ryan Carolan hit the post after a strike on the the spin and was clean through just before half time only for a fantastic one-on-one save by Piesy, the Suttonians keeper (That really is his name). Half Time. Parms started the second half on the run and quickly got the 3rd after a blistering shot was fumbled by the keeper falling to Tom Sargeant. The next 10 mins was as per the game thus far until Sutts won a free kick maybe 25 yards out. I do not think you will see a better free kick all season. The Sutts winger curled the ball top bins, 100 mph. 3-2. This seemed to shift the balance in the game and Suttonians came on strong and looked more likely to score. Parms responded by playing on the break and a flowing move down the wing, crossed a ball to Dave Stevens on the edge of the box, who smashed a head height flying volley at goal, only to draw an excellent save from the visiting keeper. A hamstring injury to Scott Moore caused a delay that was reflected in the time added on. In the dying seconds, Dan Williams, a makeshift right back after Scott's injury, misjudged a long ball, leaving it to run to the Sutts striker, who was clean through. As he went around the diving Dan Banks, somehow Dan managed to get a touch on it and then grabbed it as it caught up in the striker's feet. Wonderful. The whistle blew and it was over 3-2 to Parms. Overall, the keepers shone in this game. Excellent consecutive saves from both of them. Congrats to Suttonians on another hard competitive game, we wish them well and are glad we do not have to play them again this season. We are starting to find our feet again, so this was good prep for the AFA quarter final next week. We have scored 11 and conceded these 2 in the 3 games thus far this year, so rock on, let's see what happens...
