On fire for finals

A superb performance to bounce back from a truly dire one from the week before saw the Old Parms 6ths thrash Wood Green Old Boys by five clear goals at Douglas Eyre on Saturday afternoon. So eager to set the record straight from last week we asked the referee if we could kick off early. The first goal came after a long throw was flicked on at the near post by Captain Jack, and Zach made no mistake with the finish, heading powerfully at the back post. The second goal came from another throw and this time a combination of Ben Head and the opposition defender bundled the ball over the line. The VERY generous and VERY dubious goals panel awarding it to the Parms defensive midfielder. The third goal was created by Pearson who set the tone for the whole performance chasing down every ball and pressing high up the pitch, Ben Head tackled in midfield and released it to Zach who put a wonderful ball through to Heath with the outside of the foot; the striker finished superbly, holding off the defender before slipping it passed the onrushing goalie. With the wind against us in the second half we were forced into a bit more defending but managed to nab the fourth not long after the restart - a quick throw from Matty to Jack in the right back position allowed the skipper to drive forward before releasing the ball to Ryan who in turn played a perfect pass through to Heath, who turned the ball in from a tight angle. The final goal came after a cleverly disguised reverse pass from Sam Baptiste freed Heath in the box who curled an inviting cross to Pearson at the back post who fired home with aplomb. Matty had to pull off a couple of top drawer saves to ensure a clean sheet late on. Second Man of the Match in three games to Luke Mathewson who showed excellent reading of the game from centre back and composure bringing the ball forward. A selection head ache ensues for the gaffer with two cup final's in as many weeks next up for OPFC 6th XI.
