Nothing But Positives
Only two disappointing aspects today - the result, & our GK & striker (both new to the club) dropping out an hour before the game. Inexcusable. The 12 committed players can hold their heads high because their work rate & play deserved more. B.Wiggington showed what a quality team player he is by volunteering to go in goal & the lads went out totally focused. 2-1 at half time, with D.Williams having come off injured, after a promising & energetic start, was not a true reflection of the match, as Parms had three clear cut chances. For the first 25 minutes of the 2nd half, Parms rectified their mistakes. S.Moore was outstanding down the right wing, always tracking back when needed, & a threat every time he got the ball at his feet. He headed in his second goal, putting Parms in the ascendency, & narrowly missed his hat-trick moments later. E.McWilliams & E.Macaulay made the step up comfortably & both looked assured in defence. With J.Goddard pushing on the game was transformed & Parms set the pace & intensity. Sadly, without subs, the necessary changes could not be made, meaning injured & tired players had to stay on the pitch, & Ignatians capitalised. Everyone of us was truly disappointed about this result, but this is what I've taken from today: S.Lewis playing 90 minutes, having just returned from injury - an amazing effort; L.Vernon changing work shifts so as to be available for the match - total commitment; the players arriving early & being on the pitch 50 minutes before K.O. to warm up; all subs paid before the match & every player staying in the bar after for drinks; Joe & Matt necking their birthday pints& Matt winning; Dan necking his Dick of the Day pint for missing a sitterRonny Rosenthal eat your heart out; S.Moore blowing bubbles on his totally deserved MOM pintI think it's still in the bar. This is a top group of blokes that will be a 1st team the club are proud of.
