OPFC 6ths complete third comeback in a row
In recent typical fashion it took the concession of a goal to spark OPFC 6ths into life in this mid-week clash against local rivals Lea Valley. A strong Valley team could, and perhaps should, have been further ahead in the first half, but a fine finish from Zach Pearson gambling on a long free kick from Tom Mulltree put Parms level just before half time. A crucial triple, yes, triple save from big Luke in goal at 1-1 just after the second half kept us in it and we kicked on from there. A fine through pass saw Charlie latch onto the ball and lob calmly over the onrushing keeper. A carbon copy of that goal soon followed, Charlie's pace in behind proving too much for the Valley defence, again lobbing the keeper with a neat side footed finish after Shaf Shakur unpicked the defence. We created a couple more chances, Heath missing his chance for a hat trick, and there was still time for his speed to cause further trouble for opposition defence again. Charlie chased on to a through ball from Gooding, the Lea Valley defender seemingly wanted to swap shirts early and made off with a handful of the striker's top. The referee had no choice and had to produce a red card. OPFC 6ths slowed the game down and played it out to secure the second 3-1 victory over Lea Valley in as many weeks. No game this weekend due to the Easter holidays, allowing Charlie some time to sew up his top for the next match.
