AFA Junior Novets Cup Champions!
The 8ths set up for the final in their usual formation. Ben was in goal, Ciaran at RB, Sonny & Richard at CB and there was one slight change with Juan dropping to left back. The Ell & Tell connection were in holding mid, Ryan CF & the 3 behind him started with George on the left, Mike on the right and Harry just behind. The first chance came to Mike who emerged from a 50/50 challenge with the ball ahead of him & through on goal. Under pressure, Mike just missed the target but this gave the 8ths a boost and they settled into the game. The first goal came from Ciaran Foster. Just before his goal Ciaran had a chance to shoot on goal when a clearance from a corner fell at his feet but instead he decided to pass. A similar chance again fell to Ciaran, but this time he took a low shot which deflected into the bottom corner. 1.0! The 2nd goal came right before the end of the first half when pressure from the Parms won them the ball high up the pitch. The ball was played to Ryan with runners either side of him, Ryan slid a perfect ball through to set Harry Sach free on goal who calmly slotted it in making it 2.0 just before half time! Parkonians pressed in the 2nd half but the back four looked solid and Ben was controlling his area well, claiming anything that managed to break through. The Ell & Tell connection bossed the midfield and George had his own battle on the left side which he definitely won. Halfway through the 2nd half Juan who picked up an injury & Ryan who was playing his first game in 2 weeks came off for a well earned rest with Joe & Francis coming on. Mike switched to CF & Ciaran to LB giving the right side to Joe & Francis which they kept under control. The final whistle blew and the 8ths won their first final of the season! M.O.M’s were Sonny & Richard who were class, setting the tone for a solid display throughout the team. Well done to everyone who played yesterday, from a very proud manager!
