A Game of Two Vickers!

Parms looked to extend their run to 11 consecutive games undefeated & banish the disappointment of their two recent draws. The early chances fell to Parms, with some quality link up play from J.Collins & T.Fraser highlighting that the Birkbeck defence would struggle to cope with Parms' superior skill & speed. With his mind fully focused on the game, L.Vickers made a great start, putting the opposition LB under real pressure & comfortably winning the early battle. When Birkbeck did break, Collins' work rate was outstanding, always tracking back & winning some vital tackles to support the defence. A move down the right wing fell to Vickers, who turned & beat his marker superbly, hitting a powerful half volley which smashed off the inside left post. Parms continued to press, Fraser striking the woodwork & E.Malaveci also shaving the crossbar with an effort that would have doubled his goal tally for the season…& his entire Parms career! B.Dushku gave the home side a deserved lead with his 24th of the season, but the joy was short lived when Birkbeck were gifted an equaliser due to a rare mistake (his first since our last game) from the Parms GK, A.Bensley. It's ok Andy, we know the pitch was bobbly…& at least it wasn't the 93rd minute eh! At a time when Parms needed to keep their heads, some didn't…Vickers was challenged by the 4ft 11" opposition skipper, weighing in at about 7 stone nothing, & reacted poorly…furiously mincing away at anyone smaller than him that stood in his path. The 2nd half saw Parms again take the lead, Dushku calmly slotting home; the Birkbeck no.5 was then allowed to run unmarked into the area & E.McWilliams gave too much Paddy's Day cheer to his striker, 2-2. Thankfully, there was still time for the Vickers that we know & love to return from the dark side; he ended his needless flirting & banged in a first time finish! MoM: E.Malaveci...his best game!
