Tight game again

Having dropped points against their visitors last week, it was essential that Parms regained their composure and claimed all three points this week, which they eventually did. A similarly sluggish start in possession to last week saw the hosts create few openings early on, but looked defensively stable especially with Luke Bedson sitting in front of the back four, making his second performance after debuting last week. His man of the match display alongside the impressive Adem Bekir proved the backbone for an improving team display. As the half wore on, Chris Scherer and Mike Morgan made their returns from injury to provide more pace to the Parms attack. The ploy worked as Colin Staines saw his side create more on the break, as hosts’ transition from defence to attack caught Aloysians off guard. As the passing improved and Parms started to look more like their pre-Christmas best, the frustration centred on the chances being spurned. A half-time score of 0-0 had claret and blue minds feeling anxious, even if their possession was now more organised with a greater stamp of control exerted on the game. The second half saw a greater measure of control still, but yet more chances were spurned, as Morgan fired over and Lloyd Hallowell beat the keeper only to see the ball trickle wide. It was going to take something special to break the deadlock, which Scherer did when Morgan found him on the edge of the box. In what has become a habit this season, Scherer unleashed a rasping shot into the top corner. There was then a tense wait for the finish line for the hosts even if their control on the game looked solid, before Chris Staines put the game to bed on 88 minutes. After Morgan broken free and exchanged passes with Luke Moore before playing in Staines who’s near post finish was cool and collected. A clearly releaved Colin Staines said that he was “happy with the improved performance and the three points, which sets the team up for the semi-final next week
