Really should have been three points
Having played just once since the winter break Parms could be forgiven for a little rustiness and having been scheduled to play Aloysians, propping up the table, the feeling was that they could get away with it. They met a team not only hungry for points, but far more adept at passing and moving than was expected, with Aloysians midfield three wreaking havoc. However, a youthful make-up and a lack of concrete chances created by the hosts explained why their approach has only warranted two points, other than the one they collected against Parms. In a first half where few openings were created by either side, it took an effort saved by Jaymie Reynolds to deflected back in off of the unfortunate skipper, Gary Kirby, who could do nothing about it. A half time break seemed to reorganise the visitors as they came out with more purpose and did in fact find an equaliser. A long searching pass from Daniel Falmer caught out the hosts’ high line as Luke Moore skipped into the open and finished assuredly. Unfortunately, Aloysians only other clear cut opening, despite their superior passing, was again deflected in, after they had carved Parms open down their left hand side. Sami Bekir stood up to the plate this time, creating space brilliantly, letting Moore’s pass run across him on the edge of the box before finishing accurately into the corner. With 12 minutes left Moore once again danced free of the hosts’ defence only to see his effort brilliantly saved as Parms, finally in the ascendency, searched for a winner. Kirby hit the bar with a header in the closing stages as the visitors almost performed a smash and grab, but both sides had to settle for a point in what was probably the most deserved result from the game. Manager Colin Staines commented afterwards that his side had looked a little off the boil with so many games called off and had to kick on next week, ironically against Aloysians again, to keep their challenge at the top going
