2 Debateable penalties made the difference
With no pre-match warm up and a foot between the edge of the box and the sideline this game was always going to be a struggle but some how parms 6th managed to close out everything that somerville could throw at us in the 1st half to come in 0-0 at the break. Knowing our level of play was not good enough in the 1st half we immediatly came out on the attack in the 2nd and were rewarded when a great run from the right side ended with the ball being cannoned into the net taking a deflection on the way in. From then on it was parms in the ascendency, creating many more chances and forcing some incredible saves from the opposition keeper. However 1 moment of slack defending gave the opposition the lift they needed when they managed to turn in a free header from a corner, with just 10 minutes left in normal time to go, somerville once again piled on the pressure throwing everything they had (including a couple of tantrums) at us resulting in a red card for our reliable right back, taking one for the team and making a fine save on the goal line. The resulting penalty was finely saved by the man of the match L. Mathewson making a heroic save into his bottom left corner and sending the game into extra time. Knowing we were up against it we knew we had to try and steal a goal as early as possible and we had many chances to do just that but the opposition keeper had other ideas. Then on the counter we were hit with a sucker punch with a goal that even a passer by walking his dog was arguing had gone out for a goal kick seconds before ending up in the back of our net. now pushing even harder to somehow try and take the game to penalties we conceeded one of our own with a tackle that looked more of the pitch then in the box the ref awarded them another penalty which even witha fantastic effort our keeper could not keep out. Back to the league this week where hopefully normal service will resume.
