Fine win takes us to the semis

A chance to reach the semi-final of a competition Parms have won 3 out of the last 4 years was up for grabs in Surrey. As was the case against Woodhouseians, Nat Newman and Adem Bekir dominated proceedings in the middle of the park, while Sami Bekir confused the defence by dropping deep to support them before bursting forward as the hosts struggled to deal with Parms quick passing game. With many injuries in defence, Dan Farmer was deployed at centre back and excelled alongside skipper Gary Kiby to ensure Parms not only stopped the hosts, but controlled the game, passing out from the back. Sami Bekir had the ball in the back of the net, but it was ruled out after he bundled in a Luke Moore cross that the referee adjudged to have been in the goalkeeper’s control. Bekir was then booked after complaining to the ref about being persistently fouled, further incensing the away team as the hosts’ hard line tactics went unpunished. However, it did not shake the visitor’s resolve and after a speculative Chris Scherer shot from distance was spilled by the keeper, Brendan Kelly was alert to it and turned in the loose ball. A similar situation arose off of a free-kick with the keeper again unable to hold on to the ball and Mike Morgan was on hand to tap home this time. Less than ten minutes had passed since Kelly’s strike when Sami Bekir tricked and feinted his way into the box before powering a shot into the top corner to make it 3-0 to Parms. The second half started with a bang as the hosts were given a route back into the match through an own goal, but rarely threatened to overturn Parms’ advantage. Morgan grabbed his 17th goal of the season as he sent a screamer into the top corner on 67 minutes to wrap up proceedings as the visitors, in truth, eased off. A controlled, if muted, second half saw them safely into the semis, allowing Staines to turn his thoughts to league matters after his clear delight at the victory at full time
