Mature performance from the youngsters!
The 8ths went through to the AFA Cup quarter final with a great battling performance. Old Actonians started strongly and you could see straight away from kick off what there plan was. Actonians kept throwing the long ball forward to their big centre midfielder who kept flicking it on hoping for a break through in the Parms defence, however the back four of Archie, Ciaran, Sonny, Joe M and keeper Ben Davidson stood strong and started to look comfortable. There wasn't many clear cut chances in the first half but when the ball was kept down and the 8ths played their football they looked dangerous and looked like they could break through. In the 2nd half the 8ths started to take control of the game, Francis & Elliott started to dominate and win the midfield battle and Joe N, Harry, George & Ryan's constant pressure on the Actonians back four started to force them in to mistakes. The break through came early in the 2nd half when Harry Sach's shot was blocked by the hands of the Actonians defender, it looked like it could of been just out of the area however the referee gave the penalty and Ryan Franklin converted from the spot to give Parms a 1.0 lead. The 8ths didn't stop there and continued to press early in the 2nd half, George Maskell picked up the ball on the left hand side of Actonians area and cut on to his right foot taking a shot which deflected off the defender and over the keeper to make it 2.0. The 8ths looked comfortable defending the lead and dangerous on the break, Ben Davidson also made a top quality reflex save tipping over the bar keeping the score at 2.0. The game ended 2.0 and the 8ths ended the year keeping their unbeaten run going. Every player could of got Man of the Match but Ciaran Foster was voted it this week, he filled in at CB and was solid throughout, really good captains performance. Well done everyone so far this season, enjoy the holidays and lets carry this form on to next year!
