Last minute winner send team to the top!

Manager Colin Staines had asked for a final big performance of 2013 to leave Parms top of the pile for the winter break. He was left beaming after a Mike Morgan brace turned the match on its head having fallen behind to a penalty that left the hosts in front at the break against the run of play. A stellar first half performance had yielded many chances, but the visitors were unable to capitalise on their superior possession and approach play. Midfield pair Nat Newman and Adem Bekir were outstanding and worked hard to give Parms a real foothold in the game while Luke Moore, Brendan Kelly, Sami Bekir and Mike Morgan worked ahead of them to give Woodhouseians’ back line no time to play it out. When a penalty was given to the visitors it looked like they might establish the parity their play deserved, however Morgan’s strike hit the bar and out of play. His despair was to be short lived though, as he was to have the last laugh. A less fluent second half maintained Parms’ dominance and other than some break away chances, the hosts did little to trouble Jaymie Reynolds in the Parms’ goal. Morgan finally made one of the visitors chances count with a stunning strike from 30 yards out, a connection that left the ‘keeper floundering, dipping inside the bottom corner brilliantly. Then came a real turning point as the home team got a penalty and the chance to gain all 3 points. Another strike into the bottom corner from the Woodhaouseians’ skipper looked to have done the job, but a fantastic dive from Reynolds kept it out and saw Parms given another chance. A late corner saw Chris Scherer find Ron Odokonyero flick the ball to Gary Kirby whose shot was blocked on the line, but Morgan was on hand to smash home the rebound and send the away team into pandemonium. Parms sit top of the pile at the half-way point with much work to be done, but the optimism around Douglas Eyre is palpable
