Zach signs off with a fine win
With the message from last week 'must try harder' fresh in their minds, OPFC 6th XI started this game with a focus and determination which was lacking from the 2-2 away draw at Oakhill Tigers in their previous outing. The first goal came soon enough, Charlie Heath following up a parried Pearson shot, after a fine mazy run from the winger. Parms 6ths dominated the first half but failed to convert their dominance into goals and were wasting a lot of energy contesting the number of bewildering offside decisions given by the referee. Gooding did add a second goal at around the half hour mark, controlling a failed clearance on his chest before driving forward and curling a sumptuous shot over the goalie from 20 yards out. With a bare eleven, we needed to regroup at half-time and started the second half determined to concentrate on our own game and not the referee's. Pearson made the score 3-0 after dribbling through a couple of defenders and confidently clipping the ball past the onrushing keeper. Charlie Heath scored the fourth and fifth, claiming his third hat trick in only his fifth game for the club. The pick of the bunch was a tremendous solo effort, waltzing his way through the back line from left to right, before driving the ball into the opposite corner of the goal. Le Beau, Mulaney and Pearson were unlucky not to make the score 8-0, all three hitting the woodwork before the end of the game. Despite the score line, in truth, we only played well in patches. The clean sheet was particularly pleasing, only our second this season, the dogged defensive display epitomised by Stevie Pryor's imperious leap over the 6ft plus striker, and Adam Faulkner marshalled the space in between midfield and defence expertly. MoM to George for the second week running, this time out on pitch, his incisive dribbling and inventive passing meant he was a thorn in the side of the opposition throughout. A fine send off for the gaffer who will be sorely missed!
