Missing players let the side down
If only Parms consistency in performance of late was matched by some consistency in personnel. Last week had seen an attacking master class, but here a brave defensive showing was eventually undone as a 10 man team succumbed to fatigue against an Egbertians side featuring an array of ex-Parms players. Skipper Gary Kirby marshalled a well drilled defence who worked hard to stop Egbertians creating chances of note while hitting them on the break. It almost paid dividends as a great chance fell to Luke Moore, but he couldn’t quite find the power necessary in his shot after busting a gut to support the attack. The visitors began the second half dominantly as Mike Morgan had another chance. Parms continued to deny Egbertians opportunities, ceding territory to ensure solidity. Chris Scherer, Morgan and Moore all worked tirelessly to ensure that Parms continued to create while maintaining their discipline defensively. On 60 minutes Scherer was played through by a fantastic pass from the returning Dan Hall, the winger’s first touch was impeccable and the following chip immaculate, only for it to hit the inside of the post and get cleared. Then the home side got their break, a header at the far post finding the net. Morgan’s superb touch gave late addition S.B a chance to equalise, only for the keeper to save his attempt well. A second soon followed and then eventually a third as the tiredness set in, although the defensive solidity continued though. Ronald Odokonyero’s last ditch tackle to prevent a shot on goal the pick of the bunch of great challenges and a brilliant save from Jaymie Reynolds prevented a fourth. Colin Staines said after “I can’t be more proud of the lads that were here today, they showed real heart to put up that challenge.”
