Close one but enough

This was a a tough test for the 8ths in the first round of the Old Boys cup against a big physical East Barnet team. In the first 15 minutes East Barnet started with 9 men due to traffic on the road however they held it at 0.0 with some decent defending and a bit of time wasting. Once it was 11 v 11 the 8ths decided to play their football. Mike Diebelius playing CF today looked dangerous with his pace and missed a couple of chances being put through on goal, but he finally broke the deadlock slotting pass the keeper to make it 1.0. The 2nd half the 8ths again didn't play their best football. The East Barnet defence were clearing anything that come there way out of play which was slowing the game down. However the 8ths managed to make it 2.0 when Ciaran Foster put a great ball in the box and Ryan Franklin rose well between the 2 defenders to head back across goal and make it 2.0. East Barnet managed to get a goal back in the last 10 minutes with a decent delivery in the box from a freekick, however the 8ths looked comfortable holding the lead and looked dangerous on the break. The game ended 2.1 and we are through to the next round. No one played their best game today but Captain Terry Blue was voted Man of the Match. He kept the team organised and always tried to keep the team playing their normal game on a wet and windy day. Through to the next round in the cup we lost in the final last season, lets try change that this season.
