How cruel football can be sometimes. Old Parmiterians had lead 3-0 and were completely dominant at the end of the 1st half, then one through ball and a good finish gave UCL Acidemicals hope. Chris Scherer had twice turned Parms’ dominant possession into goals, cutting in from the left side of the box before repeating the same curling effort over the goalkeeper from a relatively tight angle. Carl Staines then produced another stunning cross field through ball to send Mike Morgan bearing down on goal, who made no mistake. That had looked like game over before UCL’s first chance arrived just on half time, to send the hosts in with a glint of hope. The second half onslaught was predictable from UCL and their reward came on 60 minutes. Jaymie Reynolds made a good save from the initial shot, but UCL were first to the rebound and tapped in for a simple goal. A red card for either side then put a different slight on the game, btu with both down to ten, there was lots more space to exploit. However, Parms did not wilt and another excellent delivery from Staines, this time from a free-kick, was put in on the volley by Adem Bekir in what looked like the killer goal. UCL then scored a flukd effort from a free-kick too, before an equaliser with the last kick of the game, which took it to extra time. Parms created the remaining chances in that period, but couldn’t find a finishing touch and in an excellent penalty shoot-out, UCL took the spoils winning 5-4.
