Late goal takes the gloss off the performance

It feels too early to describe games as ‘big’ or ‘deciders’, however, after a stalemate between Parms and Old Woodhouseians it would appear these two teams are both going to make waves in the league this season. An enthralling first half, where Woodhouseians had the possession, but Parms created the chances. Hard work from Michael Doherty and Adem Bekir in the middle and a solid defensive shape in general from Parms gave them the platform to not only hold their opposition at bay, but counter effectively. Carl Staines found space down the right and delivered an excellent cross that Mike Morgan headed home to give Parms the lead. They might have added to it by half time too, but were unable to double their advantage. In the second half Woodhouseians continued their possession game, but were still frustrated, trying to use their strong wing play to find an opening, only to find Adam Newman in top form and in no mood to give any inches away. As the game ticked down to the last few minutes Parms began to tire and drop back and Woodhouseians created a few chances, which they didn’t take. Then with 3 minutes to go heartbreak occurred, the referee gave a contentious free-kick on the edge of the box which was curled into the top corner in emphatic fashion. So its honours even for now and a performance that left manager Colin Staines, “extremely proud of the performance” if not as happy about the result. Parms go away next week to face UCL Academicals in the LOB Cup.
