Vickers to the Rescue!

Parms undertook the long journey from east London to deepest, darkest south-west, determined to get their cup campaign off to a winning start. The team began well, B.Dushku firing in from a difficult angle early in the 1st half, leaving the keeper with no chance. P.Gunn, making his debut in a holding midfield role, got off to a flier by neatly placing the ball past the Merton keeper to give Parms a comfortable lead. The home team tried to unsettle their opposition, & the referee's soft approach did nothing to help, leading to a poor challenge on B.Hammond which saw him leave the field. It also gave Merton an undeserved goal. Then up stepped L.Vickers - a team player to the end, Parms through & through, fearless of any position - to put on the coveted GK gloves. His performance was that of a goalie connoisseur - agile, confident & assured. He leapt to his left to tip over a header, kicked superbly out of hand & off the ground, & even mocked their players by cleverly letting the ball run out for the clock to tick down. Dushku got his brace, as Parms dominated the 2nd half, before C.Hallowell scored a great solo goal, despite three attempts to take him down. S.Wicks was excellent in midfield, adding cover to the defence & being instrumental in the last goal. N.Wing decided to go home in his pants & Dr.Martins, after a mysterious jeans & trainers thief struck, & E.Malaveci took this match off...even though he played. Vickers is back in goal next game...he's found his position!!!
