Played better after slow start

Following a complete washout of the league programme last weekend preceded by a rather uncharacteristic loss it was back to business as usual for Old Parmiterians Reserves last weekend. Prior to the loss the team had put together a run of nine straight victories, scoring no less than 60 goals while only conceding 17. This had left the reserves in a commanding position nine points clear of their nearest rivals and with a goal difference which, in the remaining games, should be unassailable. This week's visitors to the Douglas Eyre Sports Centre were UCL Academicals II, a brisk and rather chilly wind greeted the players onto the 3G pitch. As the fixture kicked off the Reserves were quickly into their stride creating several chances without making the breakthrough.Things took a turn for the worse when a mix up in the defence and the goalkeeper on the edge of the box led to the opposition centre forward getting a foot in and the ball rolled irritatingly across the line to make the score 0-1. Having played well but finding themselves trailing the team rallied and again put the visitors under pressure, then came the turning point. Following good defensive work on the right the ball was shifted to midfield where a nifty flick from skipper Chris Scherer into the path of Charlie Heath on the right wing. With the players transitioning rapidly into support Heath found Zach Kinnell-Harry on the edge of the box whose finish was emphatic for a candidate for team goal of the season. The half continued in similar vein with the home side taking control with two more goals as Atiba Jackson put away a rebounded Heath effort and Danny Isichei ran the length of the right wing before scoring. The second half was a rather scrappy affair not helped by the strengthening crosswind and some more questionable refereeing but good work from the midfield unit kept things tight and the side sealed the deal with a goal on the hour mark from Heath and a late fifth, again from Heath, to cap a solid performance. A week's break from proceedings gives the Reserves some time to recuperate before a trip to their recent conquerors Bealonians, to see if Old Parmiterians can get some revenge on their old rivals.
