Match Report

Saturday 11th January

We were worth the win

We started the game well and created many chances, but unfortunately it was them who scored first with a speculative shot from outside the box. We kept our heads up and soon we got the reward for all our pressure with a well taken goal by Taye. We needed leadership and thankfully the return of our assistant manager/player Brian Dooley provided that with a spectacular individual display. Not only was he keeping things solid in defence, but he whipped in a beautiful ball that got the faintest of touches from one of their defenders, and continued on its already goal ward trajectory to nestle in the bottom right hand corner. 2-1 going into the break. Fears that the opposition would put three men on Dooley to keep him out of the game, acknowledging his superiority, led to the tactical decision of subbing him at half time in the hope that the team could hold onto the lead he created. We started the second half brightly with another goal, this time from a well placed shot by Jonah, low to the keeper’s right, after a pin point cross from the gifted JC. At 3-1 up Pepe started to warm up on the touch line, confident that we had a lead even he couldn’t let slip. Alas there was to be no cameo from Pepe as they scored twice from two corners to level the game at 3-3. We had many chances to put this game to bed, but lack of composure at vital times cost us. A very bad tackle by their goalie near the end of the game prevented Carey from wrapping the game up for us. Still, unbeaten in three games, scoring well and good work rate on the field all suggests this squad has turned a corner and should continue to improve. James Canavan and the keeper were new in this week and both had great performances. Man of the match.... Team.
