Still no luck on the road

The reserve XI seem to have specialised in glorious defeat of late, but this was a masterclass in the field. The first chance fell to Charlie Heath, whose trademark run on the outside around the defnece saw him get a shot off that went wide of the near post. Once again though Old Parmiterians surrendered the advantage early on, giving away not one, but two goals in the opening ten minutes. Both goals came from swift moves that got players between the midfield and defence, causing panic, which the hosts punished. Steve Kennedy-Clarke was to thank for an excellent save at his near post to keep Parms in the game. The game then followed the format it has in the other cups, as the visitors dominated possession and forced their opponents back. Just before half-time the fight back started in earnest, as a quick combination between Mo Camara and Heath released the latter in on goal to beat the keeper at his near post. The second half continued in much the same vein, with the hosts penned in and looking to counter. Suttonians did manage to create on the break though, hitting the bar with an effort from outside the area, but the play belonged to the visitors. Josep Mari shot wide from inside the box, Zach Harry weaved through opponents in numbers while Adem Bekir and Atiba Jackson controlled midfield tigerishly. Jackson was the catalyst for the eventual equaliser, as his tackle and quick pass released Heath into a foot race. When Heath inevitably won that, he again beat the keeper at the near post to send the game into extra time. It seemed the pendulum had swung in Old Parmiterians' favour. Disaster struck though, as the visitors conceded from an admittedly brilliant header form a corner, only the second set-piece they have conceded from all season. Extra-time then followed much the same format, with the visitors dominating possession, but finding it difficult to break down their opponents. Kennedy-Clarke made another fine save from a free-kick, while the best effort from the visitors saw Heath's top corner bound shot saved by the Suttonians keeper. In the end the reserves fell just short, crashing out of their third cup competition. They are still unbeaten in the league, but must now raise themselves to play a strong Minchendenians side away to ensure they stay in touch at the top.
