Superb team performance

After our recent cup exploits it wa time for our toughest test for our debut season in Division 1. Oppponents Old Vaughs 1st,s were unbeaten in 20 odd games so we knew we were in for a tough game. OV started the strongest with some nice passing playing a 4-5-1 we were getting outplayed in midfield and there lone striker was causing problems with intelligent runs in behind our back 4.. In the first minute there striker had a great chance one on one but stand in keeper Baldwin superbly saved. It was no surprise when OV went 1-0 up with a well taken goal. The response was brilliant Long got the boy in beat 3 players and fouled by the 4th Reg Prentice had no hesitation and pointed to the spot, Long scored 1-1. Now it was a different game Blue,Foster and Mockler took control of the midfield and Massingham and Kelner got the measure of the lone striker, Matt Diebelius snuffed out the tricky winger and Parms gained control. In the 39th minute Sach won and converted a lovely free kick into the top bin despite Kelner claiming it touched one of the last remains hairs on his head! Parms piled on the pressure with Long and Mike Diebelius going close. The second half Parms had the wind at there backs and the 11 men of OV were visible tiring. The third goal from a long throw from Massingham which was headed into his own net by an OV defender. The fourth goal came from a through ball from Davidson causing confusion in the opponents box leaving sub Franklin to chip the keeper from 20 yards, Franklin then added the 5th with a near post diving header. O’Connor made a welcome late cameo after misssing last 5 games with a hamstring injury. Special thanks to Baldwin who stepped in to play in goal.
