Lost the game early on

Last season's first round exit from the Old Boys Cup was repeated in the reserve XI's first defeat of the season. A disastrous opening 15 minutes proved too difficult to overcome, despite the visitors dominating possession in the second period. In the third minute a stray pass was picked up while Parms were spread out in an attacking shape, with a devastating counter from Glyn Old Boys resulting in captain Chris Scherer putting through his own net as he scrambled to get to a cross. A mix up between Danny Isichei and Scherer just four minutes after presented Glyn with the ball right in front of goal, with only one outcome likely. Nat Newman was then forced off with what looked a nasty injury, from a two footed challenge that should have seen more punishment than the yellow card it received, as things went from bad to worse. The calamity start was not finished there though, as Parms' defensive line was caught playing too high. A foot race between Chris Kane and the speedy Glyn striker ensued, with Isichei attempting to get back into position to cover. Unfortunately, in the panic Isichei crashed into the back of the striker resulting in a clear penalty, and shortly after a 3-0 scoreline. Having built themselves a monumental task to overcome, the visitors then set about playing the football they have become known for this season. Charlie Heath had a shot that the keeper saved with his legs, before he slipped Sami Bekir in with a ball over the top. Bekir waited for the ball to come down before striking, with the ball striking the defenders outstretched arm, but the referee didn't agree with the Old Parmiterians player's protests for a penalty. The visitors continued to dominate until half time, although lost their cohesion towards the end of the half. The second half saw a dramatic improvement, as the visitors held Glyn in their own half and probed for chances. One arrived on 60 minutes when the superb Henry Williams set Heath free beyond the Glyn back line, with Mo Camara and Josep Mari in support and no defenders in the vicinity. Heath's effort was saved by the keeper though, and the frustration continued. Another attempt from Heath drifted just over shortly after, and the keeper made a great save from Mari to keep the three goal lead intact. The pressure eventually told when Camara played a ball through for Mari to dispatch into the far corner, with just over 15 minutes left. The keeper then pulled off an excellent save from Heath down to his left, with the striker having another effort that drifted over, along with Bekir and Scherer, whose efforts also didn't find the target. The score remained the same, to the frustration of the reserve squad, but they kept playing right until the final whistle. Although this was a day when little went right, Old Parmiterians showed character to get back into their rhythm and pin their opponents back. They will have to be more successful on their travels to south London in the LOB Cup next week.
