Patchy Performance

Old Parmiterians reserve XI kicked off their pre-season fixtures with a defeat to the club's own 6th XI, in a tightly contested game. It had started well, with Mehdi Krissane netting his first goal for the club, after a Chris Scherer corner was allowed to bounce in the area, which Krissane dispatched high into the net. The good play from the reserves continued, with Mike Ramsay and Mo Camara both showing good touches on either flank, and Scherer supporting the attack well down the right from full-back. Charlie Heath also showed good touches, with one fantastic through ball on the turn for Camara not being taken advantage of by the latter. There was then a period of 20 minutes where the 6th XI kept the reserve XI in their half, as they struggled to clear the half way line as the 6th XI pressed high and were able to disrupt the reserve XI's build up play. This eventually ended with a similarly poorly defended corner from the reserves ending with the 6ths scoring in similar fashion to level the game. Thereafter, the 6th XI turned the screw to see if they could take advantage with the reserves rocking. Despite the push, the reserves regained their composure, with Ramsay and Scherer working well together to get down the right hand side. to create chances for Camara and Heath, which in both cases were headed over from close range. The half ended with Krissane shooting just wide, but half time rang the changes meaning the squad from the first half were unable to continue their momentum. The second half saw a far more erratic tempo, with the young front four of the reserve XI not showing composure once chances were created. The full backs both found joy, but rarely created a clear cut opportunity to test the keeper. The 6th XI looked to counter quickly, with George Wadhams and Will Lahti having to show good one-on-one defending against strong opponents. The game was eventually decided by a free-kick from Romario Maloney, who's looping effort beat Graham White in the reserve XI goal. Thereafter, clear cut chances were at a premium, with mainly speculative efforts on show, despite Nawab Ahmed and Atiba Jackson dictating possession well in the middle of the pitch. There was just enough time for Scherer to impressively test the 6th XI keeper from a free-kick, but the end result was an opening loss for the reserves.
